USDA Rural Development grants investments to enhance rural communities

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – USDA Rural Development announced investments for rural communities to build up high-speed internet infrastructure.

Standing Rock Telecommunications was awarded $22.2 million from a grant called ReConnect.

This grant will be used to expand high-speed internet access across the reservation.

“There are still places that don’t have reliable internet to be able to serve kids for school, businesses, economic development and just folks right there in their own homes,” said Erin Oban, USDA Rural Development state director for North Dakota.

She said a Rural Cooperative Development Grant was also awarded to the North Dakota Association of Rural Electric Cooperatives for rural community project enhancements.
