This Stock Market Risk Could Shrink Your Retirement Nest Egg

It’s the nightmare that jolts recent retirees awake at night: after a lifetime of saving in a 401(k) or IRA, the stock market goes into freefall the day they stop working and keeps going down, putting a sizable crack in their retirement nest egg.

Market volatility is on the rise amid increasing uncertainty and fears that President Trump’s tariff policies will harm the U.S. economy. The U.S. stock market in mid-March suffered its first 10% drop, or market correction, since 2023.
