Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the fell 0.04%.

The best performers of the session on the were Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (TYO:), which rose 4.49% or 32.00 points to trade at 744.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Advantest Corp. (TYO:) added 3.66% or 189.00 points to end at 5,351.00 and Konami Corp. (TYO:) was up 3.40% or 291.00 points to 8,844.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Resonac Holdings Corp (TYO:), which fell 3.21% or 97.00 points to trade at 2,926.00 at the close. Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (TYO:) declined 3.14% or 11.00 points to end at 339.00 and Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TYO:) was down 2.87% or 117.00 points to 3,956.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1887 to 1723 and 279 ended unchanged.

Shares in Konami Corp. (TYO:) rose to 52-week highs; up 3.40% or 291.00 to 8,844.00.

The , which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 5.65% to 21.20.

Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.77% or 0.56 to $73.04 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.55% or 0.43 to hit $78.31 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.36% or 7.25 to trade at $2,013.75 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.22% to 147.82, while EUR/JPY fell 0.01% to 161.22.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 102.95.
