The Seattle Kraken are trading centre Alex Wennberg to the New York Rangers, Sportsnet can confirm.
It was not immediately known what was going back to Seattle in the deal.
The 29-year-old Wennberg is a pending unrestricted free agent as his three-year, $13.5-million deal ends after this season. He signed it with Seattle before the Kraken’s expansion season.
The Swedish-born centre has nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points in 60 games this season for a Kraken team that is six points out of a wild-card berth. He is among the leaders in average ice time for Kraken forwards.
Picked 14th overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2013, Wennberg made his NHL debut with that team a year later.
Wennberg has 90 goals and 240 assists for 330 career points in 693 NHL games.
