ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Coin Club is the largest coin club within 400 miles and includes over 200 members. The club supports numismatic education for its members and the public.
Former club president Phil Vitale talked Tuesday about colonial currency. The British wanted to control the colonies by having the colonies buy exclusively from them. One way they did this, was by limiting the amount of currency held by colonists. As the colonies grew, having their own currency became important. This led to individual colonies minting their own coins and notes.
Colonial currency and many other types of coins and currency will be available to see and trade at the Spring 2024 Great Southwest Coin Expo. The Expo will be April 19 – 21 at the Marriott Albuquerque Pyramid.
