Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos stands firmly grounded in practicality. He does not want to romanticise his team for passionate South Africans to start dreaming about reaching the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) final.

The delayed tournament, which was meant to be staged last year but was postponed due to inclement weather, has reached the knockout stages after two weeks of high drama for 71-year-old Broos and his Bafana troops.

Bafana got a ruthless awakening in their first match, losing 2-0 to Mali. The smack in the face from the West Africans set up a must-win match against Namibia and Bafana to right their wrongs. They did so emphatically, scoring four goals and keeping a clean sheet.

South Africans need to be in the know if we want to create a prosperous future. News24 has kept the country informed for 25 years, and we’re about to enter a new chapter of fearless journalism.
