Kolkata News: A robbery incident has led to the arrest of an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Kolkata Police on Wednesday. The ASI is accused of planning the theft of Rs 2.66 crore from two employees of a private foreign exchange company while they were travelling in a taxi.
The robbery occurred on May 5 at approximately 11:45 AM in the Entally area. The two employees were en route from S N Banerjee Road to a bank in Park Circus to deposit the large sum of money. According to police reports, the ASI had meticulously planned the entire robbery.

As the employees travelled, two unidentified individuals forced the taxi driver to stop near Kamardanga. They then entered the vehicle forcefully and ran away with the cash. The employees immediately reported the incident to the police, prompting an investigation by the Kolkata Police’s detective department.

Following the investigation, police arrested the ASI along with three others, including a staff member from the foreign exchange firm. A police officer stated, “The ASI had planned the entire robbery. We have arrested him,” although further details were not disclosed. The police continue to explore the circumstances surrounding the robbery and are actively pursuing additional leads.

The Kolkata Police are determined to uncover the full extent of the robbery and ensure that all involved parties are held accountable. The investigation remains ongoing as they gather more evidence and seek to identify the remaining suspects.
