How to gather the new Children’s Week currency and spend it on new pets and transmogs

Children’s Week is upon us, when the mighty heroes of Azeroth take a break from saving the universe in order to fly kites with orphans. This year brings a welcome quality-of-life change to earning the event’s rewards, additions to the cast of kids available for a playdate, and a few new pets and transmog weapon appearances. As its name suggests, Children’s Week only lasts for seven days, so hang up your polearm, grab an orphan whistle, and earn as many rewards as you can before the event ends on Monday May 5.

Each adorable little scamp we are paired with has a series of requests for us, from riding the Azshara Rocketway to meeting a pirate to seeing their favorite rock band up close. After an afternoon of teleporting around the world, we return them to their orphanages and get to choose a reward to commemorate the experience. There are now a whopping 17 pets to be earned altogether from the event, along with some cosmetics and event-only balloon toys. Each orphan’s quest rewards a different subset of pets, but this year there’s a way to streamline to process of catching ’em all.

A more efficient pair bonding experience

This year, when you complete an orphans’ list of demands and bid them farewell, you’ll be offered the normal choice of rewards or the new event item, Well-loved Figurine. It goes into your bags rather your currency tab, but it can be exchanged with the event vendors for almost any of the rewards from all of Children’s Week. In addition to vendors in Stormwind and Orgrimmar, Dalaran’s famed toymaker Jepetto Joybuzz has recovered from the violet city’s demise and has set up shop in Dornogal.

For some reason, Legs and Scooter aren’t able to be purchased this way, so if you’re missing them be sure to complete their respective orphan’s quest line (Shattrath for the marsh walker and Stormwind or Orgrimmar for the snail). With a single character, you can earn five Well-loved Figurines — three are faction-specific, one from the Wrath-era Dalaran, and one from Dornogal. This event has always favored those of us with alt armies, as you can complete each orphan’s quest chain on as many characters you’d like each year. Here are all the places you can pick up a buddy:

Horde

  • Grunth the Orc in Orgrimmar’s Drag
  • Salandria the Blood Elf in Shattrath’s Lower City
  • Azala the Zandalari Troll in Dazar’alor’s Grand Bazaar

Alliance

  • Randis the Human in Stormwind’s Cathedral Square
  • Dornaa the Dranei in Shattrath’s Lower City
  • Liam the Kul Tiran in Boralus near the Proudmoore Barracks

Neutral

  • Roo the Oracle or Kekek the Wolvar by the Wrath-era Dalaran fountain (both quests are initially available, but you can only choose one per year per character)
  • Orphan gauntlet in Dornogal’s Stoneshaper’s Atrium, northeast of the bank

New friends and rewards for 2025

As with the other continents we have visited in World of Warcraft, Khaz Algar has seen its share of conflict resulting in loss of life and orphaned children. You can talk with Ullna (an Earthen matron-in-training) in Dornogal in the Stoneshaper’s Atrium to meet this year’s new kids on the block. After spending the day with Destien the Arathi, Kitzy the Gnome, Skibbles the Kobold, and Threadis the Nerubian, you can return to Ullna to collect a single reward.

Managing to get the events to trigger at each location the orphans wanted to go was quite infuriating in this quest chain, so keep moving around and re-summoning your pal if you’re struggling to complete a quest. While this has always been a slight annoyance, most of the Children’s Week quests added in The War Within took the frustration to another level. I recommend completing the Dornogal orphan marathon once for the story, and then farming the Stormwind or Orgrimmar quest chains if you need more Well-loved Figurines.

The three new pets this year include yet another baby lynx, Argos, and yet another goggle-adorned hyena pup, Goggles. The real winner is the Helpful Workshop Bot, a lovingly-crafted hovering spider-adjacent mech with a satellite dish and the ability to zoom along behind your flying mount.

The transmog options added for this iteration of Children’s Week are weapon-shield combos for the Horde (Orgrimmar Guard Weapon Set) and Alliance (Stormwind Guard Weapon Set). Both sets of wooden appearances include a hand-painted shield, and the Alliance set gives you a shortsword while the Horde version adds a hatchet to your collection. In a nice touch, each set actually includes a one-hand weapon, a dagger, and an off-hand version of the weapon. This makes it a little easier to get around some of the pesky transmog weapon-to-weapon restrictions, and also allows you to be a Mage wielding an axe (which is what I did, immediately).
