Two men were robbed of $34,000 in cash as they tried to set up an off-the-books international currency exchange on a Queens street, police said Thursday.
The 19- and 25-year-old victims had arranged a meetup to exchange United States currency for Chinese currency, cops were told.
But when the two victims showed up at the rendezvous on 24th St. near 42nd Road in Long Island City at about 10:15 p.m. Oct. 23 and began talking with their contact, two other men appeared and attacked them.
As the men fought, one of the suspects punched the 19-year-old victim in the head and ran off with their backpack, which contained the $34,000 they had hoped to exchange.
The two victims were not seriously hurt, cops said.
The crooks were last seen running down 24th St. toward Queens Plaza South and have not been caught.
Cops believe the crooks were in cahoots with the man who had set up the meet.
Police on Thursday released surveillance images of all three suspects and asked the public’s help identifying them and tracking them down.
