Jae Gettig recently shared with The Express his newest addition to his collection. Found at an auction in Muncy along with coins, Gettig shared the above framed item — a collection of broken bank notes dated 1862. The frame contained 18 notes in amounts of 10c, 25c and 50c. On the back of the frame a newspaper clipping was taped, indicating the history of these bills. During the shortage of small change and currency during the Civil War, these notes were printed and backed by U. S. Government Bonds. Each series had a different size and color.
