The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning to residents about a scam targeting the community. Scammers are reportedly calling individuals, falsely claiming they have missed jury duty, have an outstanding warrant, or owe fines. The callers then demand payment in Bitcoin, gift cards, or other digital currencies to “resolve” the issue.
Authorities emphasize that the Sheriff’s Office will never call to demand payment or request Bitcoin, gift cards, or wire transfers. They also assure residents that they will not threaten arrest over the phone for missing jury duty or court.
Residents are advised to hang up immediately if they receive such calls and to refrain from providing any personal or financial information. For questions about potential warrants, individuals should contact the Sheriff’s Office directly at 910-455-3113 or visit in person. For inquiries related to jury duty, the Onslow County Clerk of Superior Court can be reached at 910-478-3600.
