The project carries a total cost of $45 to $50 million and is to be named in honor of the Bill and Jill Gassen family; both competed in track and field at USD.

The building features a 200-meter banked track and a 60-meter straightaway, field event areas with offices, as well as seating for 2,000 fans.

With the Board of Regents’ approval and additional fundraising, the facility could be open in 2028 or early 2029.
