21st annual Farmer’s Share of the Food Dollar Breakfast returns to Peoria

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The 21st Annual Farmer’s Share of the Food Dollar Breakfast returned to Peoria Saturday morning.

The Peoria County Farm Bureau hosted thousands of hungry guests at the Expo Gardens in Peoria.

The farm fresh breakfast included two pancakes, two sausage patties, two scrambled eggs, an eight glass ounce of milk and eight ounce glass of orange juice for just $1.35.

Along with breakfast, guests could participate in activities, view agricultural exhibits and shop from local vendors.

The price of breakfast is based on the “farm” value of wheat, pigs, corn, eggs, milk and Florida orange juice solids.

“A dollar and thirty-five cents for breakfast this morning. Compare that with what it would cost to go to McDonald’s and some of those things. And I think people have forgotten the farmers’ role in feeding us every day. And as a sixth generation farmer, it’s important to me that we keep reminding people that,” said Tim Yager.

The Vice President of Peoria County Farm Bureau said the actual retail value of the breakfast is around $14.
