Where does the money generated from tariffs go?
The Trump administration predicts tariffs will generate billions of dollars, but where will that money go?
- Pastor Jamal-Harrison Bryant, who led a Target boycott, is initiating an “electronic protest” against Dollar General.
- The protest focuses on concerns about Dollar General rolling back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
- The electronic protest involves contacting Dollar General through phone, email, and social media to pressure them to reinstate DEI initiatives.
Pastor Jamal-Harrison Bryant, leader of the now-indefinite nationwide Target boycott, is turning his attention to discount chain Dollar General. This time, he calls for an “electronic protest” of Dollar General due to decisions it made about diversity, equity and inclusion.
“We’re done with Target, and then our next focus will be around Dollar General,” Bryant told USA TODAY. Instead of a complete boycott of the store chain, Bryant called for an electronic protest, which began in late May 2025.
Here’s what to know.
What is an electronic protest? Consumers protest Dollar General over DEI rollback
Bryant said that “Dollar General has bowed to pressure from the Trump administration and rolled back their diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives,” and is calling for an electronic protest to hold the corporation accountable.
He describes an electronic protest as “a mass technological campaign of telephone and e-mail and social media.” Supporters are encouraged to flood the retailer’s phone lines and email and use social media to pressure Dollar General to reinstate its DEI initiatives, Bryant said.
Shoppers who want to stay away from Dollar General can, but Bryant is not calling for a full boycott because “a lot of our family members in rural communities are at the hands of Dollar General because of food deserts that bring a whole other conversation.”
