Dollar General has more than 20,000 stores. The newest one is in Fairview Township


Add another location to the long growing list of Dollar General stores.

A new store opened Sept. 8 at 8181 W. Avonia Road in Fairview Township.

The company, founded in 1939, operates more than 20,700 stores, operating under several different names, including more than 30 Dollar General stores in Erie County.

Although the store is already doing business, a grand opening event will be held Sept. 13. Gift cards worth $10 each will be given to the first 50 adult customers and Dollar General tote bags will be distributed to the first 100 customers.

What does a new Dollar General mean for the community?

The new store is expected to employ between six and 10 people.

Schools, nonprofit organizations and libraries within a 15-mile radius of the store are eligible to apply for Dollar General Literacy Foundation grants.

Since it began in 1993, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has awarded more than $275 million in grants to nonprofit organizations.

With stores in 48 states, Dollar General has more locations than any other North American retailer.
