Dollar General may be the next major retailer to close some locations across Wisconsin.
Earlier this month, the discount chain announced in its fourth quarter earnings report it is planning to close 96 Dollar General stores and 45 Popshelf stores during the first quarter of 2025. Another six Popshelf stores will be converted into Dollar General stores.
According to Dollar General’s website, it operates more than 20,000 Dollar General, DG Market, DGX and Popshelf stores in 48 states.

What is Popshelf?
Dollar General announced a new retail store concept called Popshelf in October 2020. The company said Popshelf aims to “engage customers with a fun, affordable and stress-free shopping experience” with a focus on seasonal and home decor, home cleaning supplies and party goods, among other items.
The chain announced plans to open approximately 1,000 Popshelf stores by the end of the 2025 fiscal year due to its popularity, according to CNBC.
Popshelf’s website says it has more than 220 locations in 21 states. It will have about 175 remaining stores after the planned closures.
Are there any Popshelf stores in Wisconsin?
There are no Popshelf locations in Wisconsin, according to its website.
