Dollar General to close nearly 100 stores in 2025

Dollar General announced plans to close 96 stores in early 2025 following a company review of underperforming locations. Additionally, 45 of its pOpshelf home decor stores will shut down, with six being converted into Dollar General locations.

Despite a 4.5% increase in fourth-quarter sales, the company reported a 49.2% drop in operating profit. CEO Todd Vasos said the closures are part of a “Back to Basics” strategy to strengthen operations.

Dollar General joins other retailers like Macy’s, Kohl’s, and Denny’s in downsizing. Meanwhile, bankrupt brands like JOANN and Big Lots are also closing stores, signaling continued retail struggles.
