VERMILLION, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The South Dakota Coyotes enter spring football practices with the luxery of having quite a bit of their roster back.
With that comes increased expectations.
You can already feel a different intensity during spring practice now, almost as though it’s a game week!
And that makes quite a bit of sense.
The Coyotes have ascended over the last two years, culminating in last season’s 11-3 campaign that saw them win their first Missouri Valley Football Conference title and reach the FCS Semifinals for the first time in program history.
With a new head coach in Travis Johansen, and players like Aidan Bouman returning for one last ride, they know the only acceptable outcome is to be in Nashville in January playing for the FCS National Championship.
“We weren’t satisfied you know what I mean? Last year’s done. Obviously we were happy with the steps we made but we’re not complacent. We’re not going to look back and think about what happened and all that. We’re just going to look forward and we got to do things different to achieve different heights.” Bouman says.
“Everybody getting a little bit adjusted to what’s a new normal. Coaches, players alike, you’re trying to leave your stamp on things in search of improvement. Obviously we’ve had an unbelieable football coach here for years and continue to try to be even better as a collective more than just myself.“ Johansen says.
The Coyotes won’t hold a spring game, instead holding a family day for the community on April 12th.
They’ll then conclude their spring practices on April 18th.
