Orangeburg, SC (WOLO) – In South Carolina many schools are aging and starting to show a need for repair.
Orangeburg County School District has worked to improve older facilities and Tuesday afternoon the district received a big boost to help.
State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver presented a $40 million dollar check to OCSD for the construction of a new elementary school. The Robert E. Howard Elementary School combines students from Brockdale, Mellichamp and Whittaker Elementaries.
However, students were originally going to attend a remodeled Robert E. Howard Middle School building.
Now, they will have a brand new facility thanks to state funds.
Construction on the new facility is set to begin in January of 2025.
