Rupee Strengthens Against US Dollar, Shows Mixed Trend Against Currencies


The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated slightly by Rs. 0.01 against the US dollar in Friday’s interbank session, closing at Rs. 281.02 per $ compared to the previous close of Rs. 281.03.

During the day, the rupee saw an intraday high (bid) of Rs. 281.10 and a low (ask) of Rs. 282.05. In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at Rs. 281.30 for buying and Rs. 282.15 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee showed a mixed trend. PKR depreciated by 41.89 paisa or 0.13% against the Euro, ending at Rs. 326.43 compared to Rs. 326.01 previously. Against the British Pound, the rupee gained Rs. 1.17 or 0.31% to close at Rs. 374.06, up from Rs. 375.23 a day earlier.

The local unit weakened by 66.86 paisa or 0.19% against the Swiss franc, closing at Rs. 353.19. Against the Japanese Yen, PKR appreciated by 0.46 paisa or 0.25% to settle at Rs. 1.8383 versus Rs. 1.8429 previously.

The rupee edged up by 0.09 paisa or 0.00% against the Chinese Yuan, closing at Rs. 39.45. It slipped by 0.42 paisa or 0.01% against the Saudi Riyal to Rs. 74.93, while it gained 0.29 paisa or 0.00% against the UAE Dirham, closing at Rs. 76.51.

So far in the current fiscal year, the rupee has strengthened by Rs. 2.75 or 0.98% against the US dollar. However, it has depreciated by Rs. 2.47 or 0.88% since the start of the calendar year.
