BUENA VISTA TWP, MI — A woman is charged with robbing a Buena Vista Township dollar store at knifepoint after walking away from a substance abuse treatment facility.
Shortly after 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, a woman wearing a pink backup entered the Dollar General at 3545 Dixie Highway. She brandished a butcher knife and threatened to kill staff as she began taking items from the shelves, said Buena Vista Township Police Detective Russ Pahssen.
The staff recognized the woman, as they had her removed from the premises before, Pahssen said.
Woods, 32, allegedly stole several Monster Drinks, acrylic nails, T-shirts, a box fan, and feminine hygiene products before fleeing the store, Pahssen said. An officer responded and spotted Woods in the area of Hess Avenue and Cumberland Street. Woods took off running, discarding the butcher knife, Pahssen said.
The officer caught up to Woods and arrested her. Woods wouldn’t provide police her name, leaving them to rely on a fingerprint scanner to identify her, Pahssen said.
Police recovered the stolen merchandise, valued at $91.65, and the knife.
Saginaw County District Judge A.T. Frank on Monday morning arraigned Woods on one count of armed robbery, a life offense. Frank noted Woods in February was court-ordered to complete residential treatment in the county’s TRI-CAP program.
TRI-CAP is a Probation Residential Center offering an alternative placement option to jail or prison for male or female offenders. Residents receive support, counseling, educational services and 24-hour supervision.
Woods walked away from the facility at 2300 Veterans Memorial Parkway, leading a judge to issue a bench warrant for her arrest. Woods also failed to appear
for sentencing in April on a misdemeanor conviction of larceny less than $200, resulting in the issuance of another bench warrant.
Judge Frank set Woods’ bond at $25,000 and scheduled her case for a preliminary examination on June 27.
