WEST BURLINGTON – Iowa residents entering one of 20 programs at SCC this fall could earn a degree tuition-free thanks to the Last-Dollar Scholarship program.
The Last-Dollar Scholarship is a state-funded program for Iowans who are new high school graduates starting college full-time or adult learners starting college at least part-time, have applied for all other available aid, and plan to earn a credential for a job identified by the State of Iowa as high-demand.
Part of the State of Iowa’s Future Ready Iowa initiative, the goal is to build Iowa’s talent pipeline by boosting education beyond a high school diploma to give students the skills that employers are seeking.
“The Last-Dollar Scholarship provides huge relief for Iowa families trying to cover the cost of college,” said SCC West Burlington Campus Admissions Coordinator Dana Chrisman. “It brings earning a college degree within their reach.”
People interested in the program must complete their SCC application for admission and the free application for federal student aid (FAFSA) by July 15. Both applications are available at www.scciowa.edu.
The state-funded program has helped hundreds of SCC students since its onset in 2019.
SCC Automotive Technology student Krista Eagle said the program has made a big difference in her ability work toward her degree.
“When I found out I qualified for the Last-Dollar Scholarship, I was like, ‘wahoo!’” said Eagle. “It’s allowed me to keep money in my savings account to pay for all my other expenses while I’m in school.”
The scholarship is renewable, and students need to reapply for funding each year.
The Last-Dollar Scholarship will cover tuition for the following programs at SCC:
Accounting, Agriculture Sciences, Automotive Technology, Automotive Technology – Management, Business Administration, Collision Repair and Refinish Technology, Computer-Aided Design Technology (CAD), Construction Management, Construction Technology, Early Childhood Education, Emergency Medical Services, Healthcare Technology Management. Industrial Automation, Controls, and Robotics Technology, IT Management, Medical Assistant, Network Administration and Cyber Security, Nursing – LPN or ADN, Precision Machining and CNC Technology, Radiological Technology, Respiratory Care, Welding Technology.
