Boeing executives have declined to discuss what type of aircraft will be assembled in the building under construction in north St. Louis County.
ST. LOUIS — President Donald Trump on Friday announced that his administration has chosen The Boeing Co. to build a sixth generation of fighter jet, contracts which could be worth at least $20 billion.
The announcement was a major victory for Boeing’s $1.8 billion expansion project at its north St. Louis County operations.
The new fighter jet will be called the F-47, saying it will be equipped with stealth technologies and unprecedented power,” Trump at an Oval Office event with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Trump is the 47th president of the United States.
The decision also was a much-needed boost for Arlington, Virginia-based Boeing (NYSE: BA), which faced a series of crises last year that began with a Boeing 737 suffering a near-catastrophic Alaska Airlines midair incident in which a door plug fell off.
