The United States Senate passed a bipartisan draft defense budget for 2026 with a total of USD 925 billion by 77 votes to 20. The document provides USD 500 million for the initiative to support Ukraine.
According to The New York Times, the Senate’s decision paves the way for negotiations with the House of Representatives, which had previously approved its own version of the budget, with a number of conservative provisions that the Senate had avoided.
The budget provides funding for all major areas of defense spending, from building new submarines to raising the salaries of the US military and improving procurement procedures.
A separate item in the document is the extension of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative until 2028 and an increase in the agreed funding to USD 500 million.
The project also provides for the purchase of additional F-35A fighters, the development and mass production of next-generation unmanned systems, as well as research on the integration of artificial intelligence into the military sphere.
