USD routed Pacific 13-1 Thursday night to clinch the West Coast Conference regular season baseball title, while Cal State San Marcos was eliminated from both the NCAA Division II women’s golf championship and the softball Super Regional playoffs Friday.
The second-seeded CSUSM women’s golf team was beaten by seventh-seeded Central Missouri 4-1 in the match play quarterfinals of the team championships at Boulder City, Nev.
Meanwhile, Western Washington (45-11) scored 4-1 and 3-2 wins on the CSUSM campus to win the best-of-three Super Regionals.
Paige Donnelly (Poway High School) homered to help CSUSM to a 2-0 lead in the decisive third game only to have Western Washington’s Olivia Matlock decide the outcome with a three-run homer off Jayline Sloss in the fourth inning. CSUSM finishes the season with a 43-23 record.
USD (23-28, 17-5), meanwhile, clinched the No. 1 seed in next week’s WCC tournament in Las Vegas. Right-handed freshman Cal Scolari held Pacific scoreless on one hit over six innings. Catcher Jayden Lobliner was 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs.
“They knew what was ahead of them to clinch this thing tonight, and it just all kind of came out,” USD head coach Brock Ungricht said.

Nevan Noonan (Francis Parker) homered in the seventh inning to lead San Diego State baseball to a 3-2 win over Washington State.
• Center fielder Noah Meffert (seven RBIs), second baseman Luke Reece (Serra High; five RBIs) and catcher Jake Entrekin (Steele Canyon High; four RBIs) each hit two home runs and Matt Bernath hit a solo shot as Point Loma Nazarene’s baseball team (38-17) defeated Northwest Nazarene 20-6 in the losers’ bracket of the NCAA Division II West Regionals at Nampa, Idaho.
• Palomar College’s softball team (41-4) defeated Modesto 3-1 in the losers’ bracket of the California Community College finals in San Jose. Third baseman Briana Lutz (Ramona High) was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and two runs. Catcher Isabella De Filippis was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
• Cypress scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth to defeat Palomar College (35-12) in the opener of the best-of-three Southern California Regionals in baseball. First baseman Drake Cobb (Point Loma High) and third baseman Adrian Macias (Carlsbad High) each had two hits for the Comets.
