What Is Netflix’s ‘Million Dollar Secret’?

Netflix’s new competition reality show “Million Dollar Secret” looks like the streamer’s answer to “The Traitors.”

Like “The Traitors,” the series unfolds at a luxurious estate — only instead of a Scottish castle, we’re in a lakeside estate in Kelowna, Canada.

And rather than rooting out a traitor, the cast of “Million Dollar Secret” has to find the single millionaire among them. The series involves manipulation, rooting out secrets and facing physical challenges, like chipping away at glaciers and being chased by a hound (yes, really).

What are the rules of ‘Million Dollar Secret’?

The gist is simple: One of the 12 cast members is chosen to be a “millionaire,” and everyone else tries to find out who it is.

The millionaire is (seemingly) chosen by chance. As contestants arrive at the estate, each chooses a key from host Peter Serafinowicz that goes to a different room.

Eleven of those rooms have a box that that is completely empty. One holds a million dollar prize.

Each day, contestants compete in challenges to win opportunities that will lead them closer to identifying the millionaire. At night, the contestants sit around the dinner table and choose who they think holds the prize. Whoever receives the most votes is eliminated. If successful, the pot is reshuffled to a remaining contestant. If not, the millionaire lives to see another day.

The millionaire also has their own secret agenda that they can complete to gain an advantage during eliminations. However, they must tread lightly as the other contestants are looking out for any odd behaviors that might give the millionaire away.
