Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.27% By Investing.com


Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the added 0.27% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Seabridge Gold Inc . (TSX:), which rose 9.23% or 1.73 points to trade at 20.48 at the close. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:) added 7.43% or 0.28 points to end at 4.05 and Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:) was up 7.08% or 0.54 points to 8.17 in late trade.

Biggest losers included ATS Corporation (TSX:), which lost 6.02% or 2.92 points to trade at 45.58 in late trade. Definity Financial Corp (TSX:) declined 3.62% or 1.62 points to end at 43.14 and Cargojet Inc (TSX:) shed 3.29% or 3.81 points to 111.90.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 0 to 0 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.10% to 10.72.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.90% or 42.10 to $2,254.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.16% or 1.76 to hit $83.11 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.04 to trade at $86.99 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.12% to 0.68.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 104.27.
