U.K. shares higher at close of trade; FTSE 100 up 0.31% By Investing.com

Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the added 0.32%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Ocado Group PLC (LON:), which rose 5.33% or 38.80 points to trade at 766.80 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:) added 3.93% or 21.80 points to end at 576.80 and Anglo American PLC (LON:) was up 3.85% or 70.20 points to 1,891.60 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Burberry Group PLC (LON:), which lost 2.05% or 31.00 points to trade at 1,483.50 in late trade. St. James’s Place PLC (LON:) declined 1.03% or 7.00 points to end at 673.80 and BT Group PLC (LON:) shed 0.88% or 1.10 points to 123.55.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 998 to 646 and 477 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.88% or 18.00 to $2,058.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.98% or 1.44 to hit $74.26 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.98% or 1.54 to trade at $79.49 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.82% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.29% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.43% at 101.75.
