U.K. shares higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.17% By Investing.com


Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the rose 0.17% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Associated British Foods PLC (LON:), which rose 8.98% or 225.00 points to trade at 2,731.00 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:) added 5.41% or 19.40 points to end at 377.80 and JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:) was up 3.76% or 4.45 points to 122.90 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Smurfit Kappa Group PLC (LON:), which lost 2.37% or 84.00 points to trade at 3,466.00 in late trade. Endeavour Mining PLC (LON:) declined 2.33% or 40.00 points to end at 1,680.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:) shed 2.27% or 49.00 points to 2,111.00.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1169 to 591 and 671 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.36% or 8.45 to $2,337.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.25% or 1.02 to hit $82.92 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.11% or 0.97 to trade at $87.97 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.70% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.31% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 105.59.
