U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.98%


Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, the lost 0.98%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:), which rose 2.64% or 265.00 points to trade at 10,300.00 at the close. DS Smith PLC (LON:) added 2.42% or 7.30 points to end at 309.60 and Ferguson Plc (LON:) was up 1.60% or 235.00 points to 14,900.00 in late trade.

Biggest losers included St. James’s Place PLC (LON:), which lost 4.70% or 33.40 points to trade at 677.60 in late trade. Auto Trader Group Plc (LON:) declined 4.57% or 33.40 points to end at 697.20 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:) shed 3.69% or 27.60 points to 720.60.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 873 to 767 and 495 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.11% or 2.35 to $2,047.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.18% or 0.13 to hit $71.45 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.04% or 0.03 to trade at $76.64 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.42% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.35% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.47% at 102.06.
