Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the gained 0.43% to hit a new 52-week high, while the index gained 0.39%, and the index climbed 0.20%.
The best performers of the session on the were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:), which rose 4.31% or 1.84 points to trade at 44.54 at the close. Meanwhile, Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:) added 2.97% or 5.78 points to end at 200.39 and Nike Inc (NYSE:) was up 2.34% or 2.71 points to 118.62 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:), which fell 1.50% or 0.57 points to trade at 37.67 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:) declined 1.29% or 2.53 points to end at 193.18 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:) was down 1.11% or 6.12 points to 543.65.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Cigna Corp (NYSE:) which rose 16.68% to 301.96, Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 9.00% to settle at 1,029.24 and Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 5.76% to close at 84.69.
The worst performers were Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:) which was down 3.62% to 16.24 in late trade, Carnival Corporation (NYSE:) which lost 2.71% to settle at 17.62 and Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:) which was down 2.31% to 584.25 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were JetAI Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 81.93% to 3.02, Nextplay Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:) which was up 71.44% to settle at 0.72 and Pasithea Therapeutics Corp (NASDAQ:) which gained 47.42% to close at 0.44.
The worst performers were Altamira Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:) which was down 53.79% to 0.19 in late trade, Cogent Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 53.01% to settle at 4.06 and African Agriculture Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) which was down 52.17% to 1.10 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 1452 to 1447 and 72 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2057 fell and 1414 advanced, while 118 ended unchanged.
Shares in Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:) rose to all time highs; up 9.00% or 84.94 to 1,029.24. Shares in Cogent Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to 52-week lows; losing 53.01% or 4.58 to 4.06. Shares in African Agriculture Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 52.17% or 1.20 to 1.10.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.27% to 12.63.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.86% or 17.40 to $1,997.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.27% or 0.19 to hit $71.42 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.33% or 0.25 to trade at $76.09 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.82% to 146.13.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 103.69.
