Aldi to invest £3bn in British beef suppliers

Aldi will invest £3 billion in British beef suppliers over the next five years as part of its aim to support UK producers.

The investment includes a five-year contract with its supply partner Kepak, which will provide the producer with a £260 million investment for their line of Aberdeen Angus beef.

The discount supermarket, which claims it is the largest retailer of British beef, said it hopes the move will allow farmers to plan confidently and provide security for supply chains in the UK.

Aldi added that the deal will enhance the quality and range of beef available to its customers.

“As the UK’s largest British beef retailer, we’re proud of our long-term relationships with British farmers across the country,” said Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK. “The UK farming community plays a vital role in our food supply chains – our continued investment in British beef is in recognition of this and means we can continue to provide the best quality British products for our customers.”

In January, Aldi announced that it had spent an additional £1.3 billion with British suppliers in 2023.

The company said it that it had invested “more than ever” before in British suppliers and growers, who provide over three quarters of all items sold in its stores.
