The Bruins made the painful decision to trade captain Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers, and video has emerged of management making the deal.
The Boston Bruins pulled off a move that not many saw coming, trading captain and pending unrestricted free agent Brad Marchand to the divisional foe Florida Panthers at the Trade Deadline.
It brought an end to the Marchand era with the Bruins, which began in the 2010-11 year that culminated in the Stanley Cup; Marchand played a pivotal role in the 7-game series win over the Vancouver Canucks.
Behind the scenes video has now emerged of the trade being made, and the dejected look of general manager Don Sweeney.
Sweeney has since been slammed by analyst Mike Grinnell, who is still in disbelief over the move.
If the Bruins at the deadline signed Brad Marchand, and they went and traded for Brock Nelson and made additions then, yeah, put on the gas pedal. Let’s go win this thing.
I didn’t make this decision. Don Sweeney made the decision to throw in the towel. And any m*ron out there that says the Bruins are better without Brad Marchand, go f*** yourself.
Marchand has yet to debut with the Panthers, having last played while still a member of the Bruins against the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 1.
He has 47 points (21G, 26A) in 61 games so far this year.
