The Dallas Cowboys’ trade of Micah Parsons continues to be a major talking point early in the 2025 NFL season.
While Parsons is now showcasing his skills in Green Bay, more information about the pass rusher’s trade has been revealed in recent days. Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones recently spoke to NFL writer Gary Myers on ESPN New York radio, where he revealed that he gauged the New York Jets’ interest in trading for Parsons.
“There was a communication — I’m not going to go in deep enough — with one of those teams, and as it would turn out, I initiated that with one of the teams. You can guess that it was not with the Giants,” Jones said. “You can imagine.”
Jones didn’t seem particularly interested in discussing a trade that would keep Parsons in the NFC East. If the Jets had entertained discussions, the edge rusher could have moved to the AFC East.
According to Jones, the Jets said they “didn’t have the resources to entertain conversation.”
When Myers asked Jones if he would have requested defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and draft picks from the Jets for Parsons’ services, the Cowboys owner told the writer he was on the right path.

“A prerequisite to the entire trade was that we had to have, right now, a significant, dominant inside defensive player. Which was our goal to address the run, more than we’ve been addressing it the previous four years that we had Micah,” Jones said. “We wanted to really bolster up there. We had tried to do it with Mazi Smith when we drafted him two years earlier, but that was a prerequisite.
“You didn’t get in the mentality of my trading if you didn’t have that coming through the door.”
In the end, Parsons ended up with the Packers and the Cowboys added veteran defensive tackle Kenny Clark to their defensive line. Dallas also ended up with two first-round draft picks (2026, 2027) from Green Bay.
