The Boston Red Sox have some decisions to make when it comes to the upcoming trade deadline.
But trading Alex Bregman, according to one MLB insider, shouldn’t even cross Boston’s minds.
“For the Red Sox, trading Bregman makes no sense, even if they cannot sign him to an extension before the deadline, even if they stumble while facing a difficult schedule over the next three weeks,” The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal wrote. “The Sox are trying to make the playoffs. They are in strong position after winning their seventh straight game Thursday night, one game ahead of the Seattle Mariners for the third wild-card spot, five games behind Toronto in the AL East.
“Anyone waiting for a Bregman trade should also be waiting for me to posterize (Victor) Wembanyama,” he added.
“One notion is as preposterous as the other.”
The Red Sox entered Sunday’s finale against the Tampa Bay Rays on a nine-game win streak. Their already-hot team got even hotter when Bregman returned to the lineup Friday after a seven-week absence due to a quad strain.
While the Red Sox could stand to bolster their starting pitching, keeping Bregman in a Red Sox uniform for the rest of this season and beyond should a priority for the team as they look to return to the postseason for the first time since 2021.
