International oil prices remained flat over fuel supply concerns and continued hostilities in West Asia. Saudi Arabia’s Energy Minister announced that oil giant Aramco has put its expansion plan on hold due to the green transition. He had earlier surprised markets on January 30 after a directive to the Saudi majority-owned oil company to shed its maximum production plan from 12 million barrels per day (bpd) to 13 million barrels per day (bpd). Brent oil prices traded 0.04 points, or 0.05 per cent higher at 82.03 while US WTI futures traded 0.07, or 0.09 per cent higher at 76.99.
US indices slipped after nudging higher as investors waited for key inflation and earnings data. 30-stock Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) gained 0.33 per cent at 38,797.38 while S&P 500 and NASDAQ edged 0.09 per cent and 0.30 per cent lower at 5,021.84 and 15,942.55. Last Friday, the S&P 500 breached the 5,000 mark for the first time in history.
