Winners and losers in battle to stay in stock exchange fast lane


It has been a year on London’s stock markets when shares previously seen as ugly ducklings have turned into swans.

While the stock market winners of 2022 were focused on the fallout of the war in Ukraine and the subsequent rush into “safe-haven” stocks, 2023 has been one for companies that have fought hard to revive their fortunes and restore investors’ confidence.

Leading the way has been Rolls-Royce, the FTSE 100’s best-performing share, ending the year up by 221.5 per cent.
