Han’s Mazda RX-7 from Tokyo Drift sold for 1.2 million USD

If there is one movie franchise that has created a new breed of petrolheads and given us some wicked cars, it is the Fast & Furious series. Many of these cars have sold for crazy prices in auctions. The latest addition to the fray is the 1992 Mazda RX-7 FD, featured in Tokyo Drift, released in 2006. It has just been sold for a mind-boggling 911,000 GBP ($ 1.2 million). The car is believed to be one of the two cars used during filming and driven by Sung Kang’s character, Han.

The car features a body kit from Japanese aftermarket specialist Veilside and was used primarily for static and close-up shots. It still retains the camera mount marks and #71 HANS” labels throughout.

This example measures 7.9 inches more than a stock FD and only retains the car’s original roof and tailgate. It is finished in pearlescent orange paint and comes with 19-inch Andrew Premier Series Racing Evolution 5 wheels with Pirelli P Zero Nero tyres, which measure 12.0 inches wide at the rear.

The car underwent a comprehensive overhaul before being sold. RE-Amemiya rebuilt the RX-7’s twin-rotor turbocharged engine. The car has 66,785 miles on the odometer in total, but has only been driven 5,000 miles since the maintenance work.

The Mazda’s selling price beat the 1994 Toyota Supra driven by Paul Walker, which sold for $550,000 in 2021. However, the 2000 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R by Kaizo Industries that Paul drove in 2 Fast 2 Furious sold for $1.35 million in 2023.
