History: Southern Utah leads the all-time series, 2-0. The teams met in 2009 and 2010, with the Thunderbolts winning 37-32 and 32-3.
Thunderbolts notes: Southern Utah is ranked 30th in the Division I FCS coaches poll. The Thunderbolts play in the United Athletic Conference but next year will play in the Big Sky. The football adage is that to win games teams must run the ball and stop the run. In its season-opening 46-24 win over Idaho State, Southern Utah rushed for 323 yards and gave up just 23 yards on the ground. JoshauD Dye led the way with 180 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Will Burns added 107 yards and a score.
Toreros notes: USD surrendered 469 yards and 32 first downs in last week’s season-opening 41-17 loss to Cal Poly. The Toreros didn’t force nor commit a turnover in the game. Quarterback Dom Nankil (Mater Dei Catholic High School) completed 19 of 30 passes for 202 yards and a score. Adam Creiter had one carry for 79 yards and a score, and ended up leading the Toreros in rushing.
