Plenty at stake Saturday in Dome when USD takes on SDSU in renewal of rivalry

VERMILLION and BROOKINGS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) -Saturday in Vermillion it’s the Jackrabbits and Coyotes playing for much more than just bragging right in South Dakota.

That Jacks lost their 2nd straight game last Saturday to Indiana State and need to get things turned around or they might be in jeopardy of not making the playoffs after being ranked 2nd in the FCS all season before the loss to North Dakota State.

As for the Coyotes, the upset of North Dakota keeps their slim hopes of making the post season alive, but they will come into this game with lots of momentum. And playing in the Dome before their home fans seems to bring out the best in the guys in red.

Bottom line it’s a game both teams really need to win.

Travis Johansen, USD Football Coach says, “When you’re in these positions I think all of us coaching and playing, covering it. You want to be a part of something that really means a lot to the programs. We won’t hide it, it does mean a lot to us. This state is important to us and our identity in it is important to us and we want to put a good product on the field and win the football game.”

Dan Jackson, SDSU Football Coach says, “Yes it’s a little different heading into this game with some adversity. But it’s an awesome opportunity and as you always say I get to coach a football game Saturday and I get to coach against a really good opponent. I’m looking forward to that and I know the boys are too.”

It’s amazing what a difference 2 weeks make.

This should be a very entertaining game, especially now that there’s so much more at stake for both teams.
