According to some sources in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the country’s president had allegedly promised a “substantial bonus” to the national team players if they secured qualification for the World Cup playoff.
This announcement quickly sparked controversy within the Leopards squad, with some absent or injured players voicing their frustration at not being eligible for the bonus, despite their contributions during the qualification campaign.
The technical staff, led by French coach Sébastien Desabre, along with the Ministry of Sports, also expressed their surprise that the bonus would only apply to players, excluding other key figures involved in the team’s success.
Fecofa clarifies the situation
In its official statement, FECOFA clarified:

“FECOFA formally denies the rumor that each player of the national team, the Leopards of the DRC, has received or will receive one million US dollars as a bonus.
These claims are completely false, baseless, and are not supported by any official document from the Government or the Federation.
FECOFA urges supporters, the media, and the general public not to spread false information and to refer only to official statements, especially those from FECOFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
The Federation reaffirms its commitment to working with full transparency for the development of Congolese football and the well-being of our Leopards, in accordance with established procedures.”
