HOOD’s August Metrics Strong Amid Mixed Trading Trends: What’s Ahead? – September 14, 2026

Key Takeaways

  • Robinhood’s funded customers hit 28.6M as platform assets rose 26% year over year to $383.7B.
  • Equity volumes jumped 68% year over year, while crypto rebounded 61% from July to $17.5B.
  • Options fell 10% from July and event contracts declined 23%, pointing to uneven trading engagement.

Robinhood Markets’ (HOOD Free Report) August 2026 operating metrics pointed to resilient customer and asset growth, although trading activity across products remained mixed. Funded customers reached 28.6 million, up about 120,000 from July and 1.9 million year over year.

As of Aug. 31, 2026, total platform assets jumped 8% sequentially and 26% year over year to $383.7 billion. Net deposits totaled $4 billion, down from $5.6 billion in July and $4.8 billion in August 2025.

Trading trends were less uniform. Equity notional volumes rose 1% month over month and surged 68% year over year to $335.4 billion, with average daily volumes rising 6% sequentially to $16 billion. Crypto activity rebounded sharply, with notional volumes climbing 61% from July to $17.5 billion, though they remained 38% below the prior-year level.

Conversely, options contracts traded declined 10% sequentially to 292.5 million despite increasing 50% year over year. Event contracts fell 23% from July to 4.7 billion, but were still 15 times the year-ago level. Margin balances remained strong, rising 4% sequentially and 72% year over year to $21.5 billion.

The mixed trading backdrop is worth monitoring given Robinhood’s dependence on transaction-based activity. In the second quarter, transaction-based revenues rose 44% year over year to $776 million, accounting for roughly 59% of total revenues.

Continued growth in assets, customers and equity activity supports the company’s earnings outlook and platform monetization potential. But persistent weakness in options or event-contract volumes could lead to near-term revenue volatility. The August metrics reinforce HOOD’s strong growth momentum, but sustained trading engagement will be key to supporting further upside.
