$100,000 in cash, US currency stolen from vehicle at MovieTowne carpark | News Extra


Police are investigating a daring break-in at the underground carpark of MovieTowne, Port of Spain, on Wednesday evening, where thieves made off with more than $100,000 in local and foreign currency.

The victim has been identified as a 32-year-old man of East Dry River.

According to police reports, around 5:15 p.m. in the company of two friends, visited First Citizens Bank at One Woodbrook Place, where he withdrew $100,000 in cash. He secured the money in the centre console of his Nissan Navarra and then drove to PriceSmart MovieTowne.

He parked in the underground carpark near KFC around 5:45 p.m., secured his vehicle, and went shopping with his companions. When he returned an hour later, he discovered the rear passenger window smashed.

On checking, he found that not only was the $100,000 missing, but also an additional US $3,000 that had been stored in the console.

The theft was reported to the MovieTowne Police Post, and officers of the Port of Spain CID have since launched enquiries.
